Commercial plumbing in Los Angeles

Los Angeles County is the hardest commercial plumbing market in Southern California because of its age range and its size. The right plumber needs to know old buildings, industrial buildings and new buildings, and needs to tell you honestly how long it will take to get there.

Old buildings, new rules

Downtown Los Angeles, the Fashion District and the Arts District mix 1920s-era warehouses, converted lofts and new towers. Older buildings often have original drain and supply lines that fail without warning. When a building is remodeled, a camera inspection of the drain and sewer lines before work starts avoids expensive surprises.

LADWP and backflow

LADWP runs a Cross-Connection Control Program under the State Water Resources Control Board's policy. When LADWP or the Department of Building and Safety requires an approved assembly, the consumer must install it promptly, test it and maintain it. Failure can lead to disconnection of water service. Starting July 1, 2025, commercial and residential fire sprinkler systems are subject to updated cross-connection requirements. Contact LADWP's program team to confirm whether your assembly is approved.

Industrial and food-production tenants

Vernon and Commerce have large industrial footprints where wash-down water, grease and sediment go through floor drains all day. We recommend scheduled jetting and camera inspections instead of waiting for backups.
